THE VOICES OF SSALI / Kenya / MEMOIR

Education · Skills development · Community
Dr. Rukia Atikiya writes from a life shaped by learning and service. Formerly Director of the Kenya School of Government’s Mombasa Campus, she became Director General of the National Industrial Training Authority in May 2026. Her public work connects education with practical skills, opportunity and the communities those skills can serve.
At JKUAT’s 2026 graduation she returned as an alumni representative, recalling the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral milestones that shaped her journey. That return offers a personal way into her story: the learner who comes back to encourage others. Veiled Strength brings her experience to the page; Project Cycle Management, co-authored with Dr. Abduba Mollu Ido, speaks to the work of putting plans into practice.

THE LEARNER WHO RETURNS / DR RUKIA ATIKIYA
A public career can be measured in appointments. It can also be understood through the learners encouraged along the way.

In her 2026 JKUAT address, Dr Rukia recalled the three degrees she earned there, and the responsibility that came with each return.
Hear her tell it, through JKUATFormer KSG Mombasa Director. NITA Director General from May 2026. Her books invite another kind of encounter with the person behind those roles.
